What does the T stand for in cooking recipes?

Reading some older recipes and they are calling out for a T of butter and T of Salt is that TBS? or TSP? or somthing elesWhat does the T stand for in cooking recipes?

Any time you see an upper case T this is a Tbsp or Tablespoon. Any time you see a lower case t, this is a tsp. or teaspoon.
Teaspoons = t tsp


Tablespoon = T TBS


I don鈥檛 know what TSP is.

Older recipes were really bad about this, but people who wrote those recipes didn't see the need to spell out TBL or TBS or tsp. My mother was one of those. I inherited all her recipes and then my daighter and I spent weeks going through them, making sure that c meant cup, etc.





In your question a T of butter is a tablespoon. Nothing that I've ever seen calls for a tablespoon of salt, it's always a tsp or teaspoon, or a portion of a teaspoon. Good luck!
